Pay with Interac Flash® on your Android Phone.

How it Works

Mobile Pay is based on Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, the same technology that powers Interac Flash® cards. NFC is built right into your Android phone (version 4.4 and above).

Interac Flash® uses chip technology, with functionality and state-of-the-art security unique to Interac Flash®. And your card information is not stored on the mobile device.

How to use Mobile Pay

Simply download the latest version of the Interior Savings Mobile banking app to your mobile phone from the Google Play® store. Open it and select Mobile Pay. Select which MemberCard you would like loaded to your phone, choose a passcode and that’s it! You can start making payments immediately.

You can use Mobile Pay at any retailer where you can use Interac Flash®.

Mobile Pay FAQs

The following are Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about Mobile Pay.

What is "Always On"?

Enabling the Always On feature allows you to hold your powered and unlocked phone near the Point-of-Sale (POS) terminal and have it automatically open Mobile Pay within just a second or two. Within your Settings menu, you have the option to turn the Always On feature on, or off.

When will I enter a passcode?

For purchases over $100, you will be prompted to enter the passcode that you selected when you set up your app. From time to time you may also be prompted for a passcode for additional security. For even more security, you may choose to require a passcode for all purchases (this option is available in your Settings menu).

Is there a maximum dollar amount?

There isn’t a maximum dollar amount for Mobile Pay purchases. For purchases over $100, you will be required to enter a passcode. Mobile Pay purchases are subject to the same spending limits that apply to your Interior Savings Credit Union account.

Is Mobile Pay secure?

Mobile Pay builds on the security of Interac Flash® contactless chip debit technology, using state-of-the-art encryption* and tokenization**. It offers strong consumer protections such as transaction limits and passcode verification, and is backed by the Interac Zero Liability policy. For even more security, you may choose to require a passcode for all purchases (this option is available in your mobile banking app Settings menu).

  • *Encryption is the process of mathematically transforming plain text information into a non-readable form called ciphertext. An algorithm and an encryption key are required to decrypt the information and return it to its original plain text format.
  • **Tokenization is the process of replacing sensitive data with unique identification symbols that retain all the essential information about the data without compromising its security.

How do I change my passcode? What if I forget my passcode?

You can change your passcode from the Settings menu within the Interior Savings mobile banking app by entering your old passcode. If you have forgotten your old passcode you will be asked a security question.

You should choose a 4 -12 character numeric passcode that is easy to remember, but avoid numbers that are easy to guess such as a sequence, (1,2,3,4) or birthdays.

Do I need network access to make a purchase?

No. The Interior Savings mobile banking app has everything you need to complete a purchase at a participating retailer, whether or not you have network access at that time. The Interior Savings mobile banking app will occasionally require connection to the network to stay current.

Will a phone case interfere with making a purchase?

Mobile Pay transactions use a signal from within the phone to interact with the POS terminal and complete the purchase. The Mobile Pay signal is a magnetic field created by a small antenna, which interacts with a similar antenna on the POS reader. Depending on the thickness and material of your phone’s case, there could be interference resulting in inconsistent functionality.

By repositioning the phone on the terminal, and waiting up to a few seconds for the devices to communicate with one another, you should be able to successfully complete a purchase with the phone case on. If you have a really thick phone case, you may need to take it off your phone to complete the purchase.

Can Mobile Pay be "skimmed" to create fraudulent transactions?

Skimming is not possible with Mobile Pay. Mobile Pay purchases are completed using transaction-specific, secure tokens, which consists of a unique, randomly generated sequence of numbers. And like Interac Flash® transactions, the information passed through Near Field Communication (NFC) is encrypted.
